Hi there, I’m Angela Roberts and the Ange behind angemade.
Thank you for looking at my website which is now my new baby. I’m sure you would like to learn a little bit more about the Ange behind this business.
I live in the heart of Cheshire with my husband, although I’m originally from Northern Ireland which has resulted in a funny accent and household rivalry when both countries play against each other at sport. The things I love the most are a good brew, chocolate, chilling in the garden and crafting. Everyone that knows me will tell you that I am a prolific crafter and thrive on creating handmade art.
I turned my talents into creating textile art at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Maybe not the best time to start up a handmade business, but, I think it is a bit like deciding to have a baby, when will ever be the best time. I have a bit of a thing about saving fabrics from previous projects and have quite a stash. A lot of it is hidden so that my husband doesn’t know about the extent of the hoarding, but it breaks my heart to see even the tiniest bit of material going in the bin. I have been using these pre-loved fabrics and giving them a new lease of life as beautiful, original artworks by using embroidery to create texture and interest. So far, I have saved 55 fabrics from going to landfill. It is such a mindful way to unwind and relax so I’ve also created a range of embroidery art kits in order that you can do the same.
As well as my original art being good for the planet by saving all that fabric from being dumped, I’m also a bit passionate about packaging. I do despair when I receive something in the post which has lots of unnecessary packaging. I have spent ages sourcing boxes that are the optimum size for my products and I ensure that all items are packaged plastic free. Instead of sellotape, I use paper tape and paper based bubblewrap works just as well as plastic bubblewrap. Every item is swathed in pink tissue paper so that it looks pretty as well. As well as your items getting to you safe and sound, the packaging is having a much more minimal impact on the planet.
I’m also delighted to be running workshops to share my crafting skills and knowledge. Please check out the workshop page to find out about forthcoming classes.
